Intel Business Challenge Europe 2014 is a competition for innovative products, smart technologies and interactive web&mobile applications in the areas of:

It is an excellent opportunity for teams to learn about how to develop and idea and turn it into a company as well as a chance to promote their project to a valuable network of entrepreneurs, academics, and investors.

IBC Europe participants will have the opportunity to access resources to develop their idea, and receive advice and coaching from experts, mentors, meet other entrepreneurs, and receive feedback from the jury.

The opportunity to interact with other entrepreneurs and coaching experts as well as get feedback from them will be available to all participants from the first round.

Participants must be residents or citizens with valid work or student visa in in one of the eligible countries (see below) However, if you are not an EU citizen or are citizen of an EU country which requiresa visa to attend one of the events, when entering Round 2 of the competition it is your responsibility to apply on time for a visa to the country where European finals and international finals take place.

All members of the team must be active students (Bachelor's, Master's, PhD) of any of the accredited universities and colleges from eligible countries or graduates up to 4 years after Bachelor's or Master's graduation. Moreover, all Participants must be between 18 and 34 years old.

Finally, participants must own full property of the project/idea.

Participants may be accompanied by mentors (e.g. scholars) who do not meet the criteria above, however they are not eligible to present or answer questions during the competition's finals in front of the Jury or in the pitch video.

Yes, the project/company has to be based in one of these countries to meet the participation requirements.

Yes, all of the participants must be students or graduates up to 4 years after Bachelor's or Master's graduation. This is very important due to the aim of the competition which is to promote entrepreneurship at university level (undergraduate and graduate).

However, participating teams may be accompanied by mentors who do not meet the eligibility criteria but who are not allowed to present the project during the competition nor to answer to question from the jury.

No, the participating team members must reside legally in a country eligible to the competition.

Yes, you cannot participate if:

- you are a winner of a previous edition of any Intel competition AND you submit a project that was already selected in a previous edition, even if updates or modifications are made,

- you are a beneficiary of Venture Capital funding for the business plan,

- you submit a project that has already received more than USD 250,000 of financing (public and/or private),

- you are an employee of Intel Corporation or one of its subsidiaries, affiliate or a company wherein Intel has an equity stake.

No, you are only required to have an abstract for Round 1 of the Competition. You may choose to submit or not your business model at the end of Round 1. Only submitting a business model will allow your porject to enter the selection process and have a chance to move on to Round 2.

Only the jury and competition managers will have access to the documents of each team. The documents will be strongly protected from any unauthorized access.

When submitting a document, you can choose to make it accessible to the people registered on the platform or not.

Intel will always ask for permission before disseminating any documents.

Submitting teams retain all property rights. Intel Corporation and/or its subsidiaries will take reasonable steps to safeguard the use and management of information provided by participants. The judges, reviewers, staff or the audience will be asked to agree to or sign non-disclosure statements for any participant.

Yes, in Round 1 participants are provided with a series of resources (inlcuding business model template and pitch video template, as well as e-learning course on business plan preparation) and access to online coaching with business experts through the Milestonehero platform in order to develop their business idea/project. Round 1 will take place between January and 15th June. During this period of time, any participant can register on the platform by submit a business abstract and benefit from these resources.

The selected 24 teams will be provided with extra online coaching which will take place between the time results are announced and the European finals.

In order to take part in Round 1 of Intel Business Challenge Europe, Participants are required to register on the MilestoneHero Platform, fill in their profile by following all steps, and submit their business idea on a provided abstract template.

Teams should be registered by the team leader, who can then add other team members to the given project. If team members can change throughout the 1st Round, the team must however always remain the same person.

Participants submit their projects and access all of the provided resources via their on-line profiles.

In order to take part in the selection process and have a chance to move on to Round 2 of the competition, teams must submit a Business Model by the given deadline (15th June 2014)

Round 1 registration opens on 6th January 2014.

From the day you register and submit an abstract you will have time to work on you business idea and develop your business model.

Round 1 closes on 15th June 2014 which is the date until which you can register on the platform by submitting an abstract; but it is also the deadline for submitting a business model and your pitch video. Submitting a business model and pitch video allows you to enter the selection process (your business model and pitch video will be evaluated by our jury) and have a chance to advance to Round 2.

For IBC Europe 2014, there is no selection process during Round 1. This means each participant can register on the MilestoneHero platform and benefit from all available resources.

Selection process starts at the end of Round 1: if you decide to submit a business model and elevator pitch video, those will be assessed by our jury and your project will have a chance to advance to Round 2 which is composed of extra online coaching and Face-to-Face European finals.

No. Intel Business Challenge Europe Jury does not require from participants to have a working prototype of their project/product.

However, the Intel Global Challenge Jury (Finals in Berkeley, USA) requires functional prototype and reserves the right to request a presentation or demonstrative use of it.

Yes, participants declare that they have the absolute ownership of the project submitted for the competition and the project cannot be subject to a conflict regarding intellectual and/or industrial property rights (trademarks, patents, copyrights, etc.).

Yes: you can submit your abstract and then make changes to it all throughout Round 1 of the competition, i.e. until 15th June 2014. Deadline for submittig abstract is 15th June 2014. When uploading your abstract onto the MilestoneHero: one for uploading it, which allows you to make changes; and one for submitting it: once you have submitted it you can not change it anymore.

No: once you have submitted your business model and elevator pitch video, they cannot be updated, corrected, supplemented or changed in any way, even if the deadline has not yet passed.

Please use the option Save to come back to your project draft if it is not complete, but remember to Submit it upon the deadline completion. We will remind you via e-mail 2 and 1 week before the deadline to Submit your application.

Only material submitted within the deadline will be evaluated in the competition. By submission we mean sending a complete abstract and business model with elevator pitch video by clicking the button Submit on the application form of the Milestonehero platform.

You should do two things:

Necessarily register online for Intel® Business Challenge Europe Finals by a given deadline. Teams which miss the deadline are disqualified from the Competition.

You will then be guided by direct emails from the organizing team to help you prepare for the face-to-face European finals.

Prepare a 15-minute long presentation of your project which you will later present in front of the Round 2 semi-finals jury; and a 6-minute long presentation which you might present in front of the finals jury if you are selected after semi-finals.

There will be additional online training provided for you via the MilestoneHero platform before the European Finals.

The finalists will be announced on a given date on the website and the teams will also receive an e-mail notification.

There will be a waiting list of three project names ranked in order of points received; should some selected teams give up on their place in the finals, teams on the waiting list will be contacted directly.

Yes, Intel Corporation covers the costs of flights (round trip), accommodation and meals for up to two team members who present the project at the event and provides insurance.
Intel Corporation does not cover the expenses in the fllowing cases :

Participants are flying from/to another destinations than an eligible country ,

Participants decline the flights proposed by the travel agency (however, participants can request changes but only at their own expense),

Participants wish to change flights that have already been booked (changes at their own expense),

Some transfers are provided onsite during the event; participants are in charge of any other transportation (e.g. taxies, buses) they wish to use during the event.

The date and location of the European finals of Intel Business Challenge Europe 2014 will be announced later

It means that you have a chance to be accepted for the Finals if any team from top 24 teams fails to register by the deadline or declines their invitation. The Waiting List Participants are to be notified by the Jury about such possibility individually in the order based on the score achieved in this round.

The Intel® Business Challenge Europe Finals will last 3 days including:

Face-to-face coaching so that Participants get a chance to polish their business plans and presentations on day 1.

Semi-finals during which teams' representatives present their business idea in front of the Round 2 Semi-finals Jury (who may ask additional questions) on day 2. Up to 9 best projects go to the Finals.

The Finals during which teams present their business idea and answer the questions in front of the Round 2 Finals Jury on day 3. Best 5 projects qualify to Intel® Global Challenge.

5 teams selected during the European finals will potentially be accepted for Intel Global Challenge to be held in Berkeley, USA.

Please note that the winners must be eligible to have all permits and visas required to travel from their country of origin to the United States of America. Intel Corporation is responsible neither for obtaining such permits and visas nor for covering the costs associated with them. Participants should consider the time of application for such a visa, depending on their own country.

Yes, Intel Corporation covers air travel, hotel and per diem for up to $50 USD per person per day; for two participating team members.
